Project Timeline

The idea that turn a million difference

The Challenge

At Freelancer's Mobile Team, we ask ourselves do we do our best yet? Today we challenge ourselves with the new feature that entirely change the way people manage their project in our apps like never before, and we called it "Timeline" (Version 1!).

Purpose Driven!

We use to have a "Project View Page (PVP)" that offers of Project Details, Proposal and Management. Which people can nonlinear jumping between each tab at a random time, it was great, but from PVP we have noticed that sometimes people get lost, and difficulty finding what's next step.

We approach this problem by simplifying the task and asking the important question "Can a project become a linear?" so people can alway have a purpose of what's to do next.

Iterate, Iterate, Iterate!

We pick a point to release our beta and iterate fast with our test group. We fill the room with the app screens on the wall and gradually sketch out what we've missed from the iteration.

A big shout out for Data Science Team that was massively testing this product out in all aspect and grow our Confluence.

The Project Timeline

To manage the project, we're going to need at least 2 sides of people, which is 1. Employer (Who need their dream come true) and 2. Freelancer (Who magically make thing happen).

Aha Moment!

Once the employer "Post a Project", we're kicking off the Timeline with the Aha-Moment. Which means employer will see a lot of people bid on their project straight away within ~30 seconds!

Employer Timeline

Employer Timeline gets started after the employer "Post a Project" and follows up by:

  1. Award freelancer to work on the project
  2. Manage the project milestone and payment
  3. Leave a review to freelancer
  4. Rehire or Post a New Project

Freelancer Timeline

Freelancer Timeline gets started after the employer "Award The Project" and follows up by:

  1. Accept The Project
  2. Manage the project milestone and payment
  3. Leave a review for Employer
  4. Browse another project to work on

Things we've learned so far

Of course, we have a great attitude to make the significant impact on our product and take our app go to where we never imagined. Today we thank for Freelancer that allow us to do so, and here is what we've learned from our Timeline so far:

  • Start the day with a Coffee + Usertesting
  • Another coffee with Data Scientist and Invision App
  • Mock many new ideas with the Product Manager (PM)
  • To make a big impact, prepare for small details
  • Work on a better question, not solution
  • Progression over perfection.
  • Learn from human more than article
  • Start over = Understand another way to fail
  • All fail = one step closer
  • Listening to everyone to create options
